Announcing JFI:Mint

First of all, A big thank you to Indira for letting me host Jhiva for Ingredients (JFI)...JFI is a brain child of Indira of Mahanandi. JFI is a successful event for more than 3 years now..can u believe it??. The event mainly focus on Ingredients we use in everyday cooking..

We all know Mahanandi, the website is like Amuda Surabi of recipes.. any vegetable any kind of dal, U can find recipes in the site.. Hats off to Indira for sharing these recipes... I try out lot of recipes from her site.. U will never be disappointed with the result..

Coming to the event, I have selected Mint/Pudina as the ingredient of the month. What a lovely flavour huh...Mint...just say the word and cool, refreshing images come to mind: frosty glasses of lemonade garnished with curly sprigs of spearmint; the clean, chilling taste of a mint candy cane.Mints are aromatic, almost exclusively perennial, rarely annual, herbs. They have wide-spreading underground rhizomes and erect, branched stems. The leaves are arranged in opposite pairs, from simple oblong to lanceolate, often downy, and with a serrated margin. Leaf colors range from dark green and gray-green to purple, blue and sometimes pale yellow.

Mint in Mythology!!!!

Mythology: Mint is even a part of Greek mythology. According to the legend, Minthe originally was a nymph, and Pluto's lover. When his wife Persephone found out, in a fit of rage she turned Minthe into a lowly plant, to be trod upon. Pluto could not undo the spell, but softened the spell by giving her a sweet scent which would perfume the air when her leaves were stepped upon.
